Many people view “hustling” as a way of making their dreams come true. Yet, following the mainstream is definitely overrated! When it comes to achieving your goals, most people know what they want, but don’t know why they want it. This reminds me most of Simon Sinek, who is the author of the book, “Start with Why.” He talks about people don’t buy what you do, but why you do it.
So, the question I’d like to ask you is this,
“Why are you hustling?”
Is it to buy a new car? Is it to provide for your family? Is it to show off to your friends? I’d challenge you to dig deeper, look yourself in the mirror, and ask yourself,
“How do I want to be remembered?”
Now, this is not an easy task, as you grow up and become an “Adult” it becomes more difficult to stay true to who you are because society is constantly telling you who you should be. And more times than not, who you are, isn’t what society wants you to be. Why is this?
Well, we live in an age where views, clicks, and likes are valued more than creativity, spontaneity, and being special. You may be posting to social media to show off how great your life is when in reality, you’re just trying to keep up with what others are posting. This comes with a price, which may lead to burnout because activity doesn’t equal progress.
Life is full of opportunities staring you right in the face, but you need to recognize that life isn’t a game of chance. It’s a game of luck and luck is the residue of hard work. Hard work comes with a price. It’s knowing when to say “NO” when your friends invite you out for drinks. It’s knowing when to delegate tasks and pay money for other’s expertise. It’s knowing when to schedule “ME TIME” and doing what’s important to you.
This is what separates the successful from the middle class. Being willing to take the road less traveled and to realize that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your life, will not be built on one day’s hard work. It will be built with many days of grueling pain, suffering, and sacrifice. However, this is what makes success worth the battle of your blood, sweat, and tears.
Your sacrifice today is going to allow you to live the life that others envy and the life that you’ve always imagined. As long as you start to value your future more than you value the present, you will begin to realize the true meaning of happiness. Doing what you want to do, regardless of what others may think.
So, when it comes to “Hustling” make sure that you don’t burnout, always recognize the opportunities, and know when to say “No.” Anything that doesn’t align with giving you unlimited amounts of ecstasy, isn’t worth your time.
