Holidays are Hard | Do You Know Someone Who’s Depressed?

Work parties, holiday parties, family parties, the holidays are supposed to be a time of laughter, reflection, and joy. Regardless of what you’re supposed to be feeling, the holidays for others are an extreme time of grief. As we grow older, our experience with loss is imminent and we’re never taught how to cope or help others cope in the school system.

Grief Recovery Specialist Benjamin Allen says that loss comes in a variety of forms:

1) Loss of a Loved One

2) Loss of a Job

3) Loss of a Dream

4) Loss of a Relationship

Loss is something that we will all endure at some point in our lives. That’s why it’s important for us to break the stigma in regards to talking about these areas that will affect you. One way to assist with other’s loss is to always ask,

“How are you today?”

This will open up people’s responses for you to get a better look into what they may be experiencing. So, the next time you ask someone about how they’re doing, make sure to add the word

Today.

Happy Slacking,
